His heart was pounding. He was sure he had seen the door knob turn.
"Quick! Come with me!" Dave said as he whispered as loud as he could without giving away their position.
Alex ushered both Alex and Raheem under the staircase and knelt down. The door opened letting the cold, wet air come into the room giving the three teenage boys goosebumps on the back of their arms. Two men came down the steps and their feet stomped on the stairs right in front of the three boy's faces. They stopped briefly in the middle of the basement, without saying word.
One looked at the other and said with a thick British accent, "Its got to be here. Spread out, and look on that side of the room."
The other followed orders as the two split up and began to search the basement.
"Who are they? Why are they here? I thought we were the only ones who got the email." said Raheem with a confused look on his face, "We've got to do something we can't let them find the chest first! Who knows what's inside and what powers it may hold."
They waited there in the shadows underneath the staircase until it looked like one of the men found what they were all looking for.
"I think I found it!" said one of the men with his hands on a closed wooden box with an interesting glow coming from the lid.
Alex took a coin out of his pocket and threw it into the opposite corner of the basement to distract the two men. They both froze in their steps and looked at each other, then to where they heard the noise. They slowly walked towards the noise keeping a close eye on the supposed chest they had just found.
"Now what genius? We didn't even plan for that. Now what are we going to do?" said Dave grabbing Alex's sleeve.
"I don't know I panicked I'm sorry!" she answered.
Before they could discuss any further, Raheem took off. He grabbed the box, looked at his brother Dave and his sister Alex and yelled,
"Run!"
The two men instantly turned around and began to run after Raheem. Dave and Alex grabbed their feet from under the staircase and both of the men fell flat on their faces. The two boys came out from the shadows and ran up the stairs stepping of the backs of the two men to delay their recovery even further and slammed the door behind them.
"Where's Raheem?!" said Alex to Dave as they continued to run down the street and away from the house.
"Oh great now lost both Raheem and the chest!" said Dave.
Before either of the siblings could think any further, the door to the basement was busted wide open and the two men were chasing right after them. The two siblings looked at each other and nodded. They split up to take one of the men with them each and to also search for their little brother Raheem.
Dave ran into a back yard of a house and took a piece of wood from an unfinished fence he found lying on the soggy wet grass. He stood around the corner of the house and as one of the men turned the corner, he swung with all his might, knocking the man out flat on the ground. As the man laid on the grass, Dave noticed the mans phone peaking out from his pocket and took it with him as he left.
A couple blocks down the road Alex had run into a park with a forrest. The man grabbed her shoulder but she quickly shook him off causing him to fall down. She claimed the tallest and biggest tree she could find and waited there until she felt the way was clear. Out of nowhere, Raheem popped up from the bushes with the box between both of his hands. They both embraced for a brief second.
"Where's Dave?" said Raheem
"I don't know we split up trying to get rid of those guys. Come on he's probably still close by."
The two eventually met up with their eldest brother Dave and the three ran back to their house, went down to the basement and shut the door. As the siblings set the box down on the table and just began to relax and catch their breath they heard a phone start to buzz. Dave felt his pockets and remembered he had taken one of the men's phone with him. The text message read, 'Where are you? I was able to put a tracker on the girls shoulder before I lost them. I'm going to her location now with the rest of the crew.'
Alex froze and ripped off her jean jacket and on her left shoulder, was a small red blinking light.
"Oh my God..." said Alex with a weak and traumatized voice.
The three had so many questions. What were they going to do? How are they going to get away? What's going to happen next? But most of all the big question that dwelled on their minds was, who were the uninvited guests?
